Let the countdown begin! Come August 5-7th, close to 250,000 music fans will swarm the plush greenspaces of Grant Park that resides in the very heart of Chicago, to attend Lollapalooza 2011. Now spanning over 115 acres, multiple stages, and an even more diverse array of 130+ artists from hip-hop, electronica, reggae, indie, and rock, Lollapalooza plays host to an overwhelming amount of musical talent.
As if the extensive list of performers was not enough reason for celebration over the August weekend, this year's Lollapalooza marks the music festival's 20th birthday! No wonder all tickets are completely SOLD OUT!! What better way to celebrate the past 20 years than to provide fans with a first-class lineup including everyone from Eminem to Damian Marley to Cold War Kids to Bright Eyes (whew! probably one of the most diverse lineups that the festival has seen). Powerhouse electro acts including DEADMAU5, Skrillex, and Crystal Castles, will be joining indie stars Beirut, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Bright Eyes, Fences, and Best Coast. No doubt there is music for everyone at Lolla this year.
If you were lucky enough to snag a wristband for Lollapalooza, you're in for a gigantic weekend filled with performances by bands that you will undoubtedly never get to see in one place at one time ever again.
It seems almost impossible to put together a list of ONLY 10 must-sees at this year's festival when headliners include Coldplay, Muse, Foo Fighters, and Ratatat, but still, check out my list of 10 acts that you would definitely regret missing while at Lolla.
